Another Earthling Woodland Owl Mask

Owl Mask – Hand-Felted Sculptural Heirloom

This work is part of my long-form sculptural practice in needle-felted animal forms, made slowly and entirely by hand using traditional felting techniques and carefully chosen, sustainably sourced fibres.

My work with animal forms grows out of a wider artistic practice rooted in wonder, attention, and a lifelong habit of placing my body in the landscape – walking, watching, noticing, and learning from fields, woods, weather, and seasons. These pieces are shaped not only by material and technique, but by years of lived relationship with the natural world and the quiet, daily act of paying attention to it.

Wearable sculptures and symbolic objects – made as much for story, presence, and feeling as for form.

Each piece takes many days of focused handwork and draws on over fifteen years of embodied skill with fibre, structure, and character. The process is slow, physical, and deeply attentive.

Because of this, no two masks are ever the same.

The mask shown here is a previous piece from this body of work. If you commission one, it will be made especially for you and will follow the same spirit, materials, and form – but it will never be an exact replica. Fibres are never precisely the same shade, and each animal emerges with its own subtle expression, posture, and character. That is part of the work, and part of its life.

These pieces can be collected, worn, displayed, or held somewhere between all three.

They are made as heirloom objects — to live in a home, to gather story, and to be passed on through time.

Many people experience them as totemic or spirit-carrying forms, though each relationship with o piece is its own.

After many years of making in this way, the physical demands of the process now mean I create only a very small number of these works each year. They are released infrequently and in limited numbers.

When you acquire one of these pieces, you are collecting a one-of-a-kind work from an ongoing sculptural practice, not a mass-produced object.

Each piece is:

  • Hand-felted using traditional techniques
  • Made from sustainably sourced natural fibres
  • A unique, one-of-a-kind sculptural object
  • Created slowly and intentionally
  • Designed as a wearable artwork and symbolic piece

Your mask will be carefully wrapped and sent from the UK.

If you are interested in a future piece or a particular animal form, you’re welcome to get in touch.

I now only accept a very small number of commissions each year.
